River Liffey – March 2014

Early days on the River Liffey, fly hatches sparse, as I saw only 2 large dark olives on the river around Clane on Sunday 9th March.  There was a small sprinkling of Black Midges around noon with the odd fish rising to them.  The best chance of catching a fish is on a bead head nymph or streamers.

With the release of water from Golden Falls reduced now, there will be a window of opportunity to fish some part of the day.  Check www.liffeyreleases.com for time of water releases.River Liffey

There is a substantial increase in temperatures this week, fly life should improve and we should see the first big hatches of large dark olives any day soon.

River Liffey report for August 2013

Evening fishing on the River Liffey around Clane area is somewhat slow at  present as the hatches of sedges are sparse.

There is a reasonable hatch of Blue Winged Olives and a fall of Sherry Spinners in the late evening but it is localised.

River Liffey Clane 07

The recent rainfall will put a small but much needed rise and a slight colour in the water which should improve day time as well as the evening fishing.

The New Zealand style will probably  work best in the afternoon with the dry fly being the best method for late evening.
